Every Batch Its Own World

I'm Robert Overton, the owner‑brewer behind Michiana Mead, making small‑batch handcrafted mead by hand in South Bend. These are what I make for the love of it, and what started with one fiery batch is now more than twenty‑five, sorted below into the Bold, the Garden, and the Orchard. Have a look around.

The Bold

Peppers, smoke, and the meads I made to mean something. They open sweet and finish with fire, built to start a conversation.

The Garden

Steeped slow and grown from leaf, herb, and flower. Tea meads and botanicals for the evenings you want something quieter.

The Orchard

Bright fruit up front, honey cooked to caramel for the finish. Apple, berry, and dessert meads for anyone who likes a little sweetness.

Small Batch, Start to Finish

Every mead I make starts with raw honey and a lot of patience. I brew in small batches so I can taste and adjust as I go, cooking the honey down to caramel for the bochets, steeping whole‑leaf teas, and folding in real fruit and fresh peppers at the moment they'll do the most good. Then I let it ferment long and slow. No shortcuts, no factory, just my hands and time.

Handcrafted Small‑Batch Mead | 25+ Original Blends | South Bend, Indiana | Making Mead Since 2025

I'm Robert Overton, the owner‑brewer of Michiana Mead in South Bend, Indiana. I handcraft small‑batch mead from raw honey, with more than twenty‑five original blends spanning fire, tea, fruit, herb, and dessert styles, each one made start to finish by hand.

Addicted To Making Mead

I fell into mead‑making in late 2025 and, if I'm honest, never climbed back out. My first batch was a tri‑pepper fire mead called Burning Hive, sweet at first and brutal at last, and I was hooked. Since then I've chased flavors across the world and a few genres nobody asked for. There's a person and a why behind all of it. Let me tell you the rest.

Every Batch Different

From fire meads to Korean botanicals to dessert bochets, no two bottles taste alike.

South Bend Roots

Brewed right here in Michiana, one person and a lot of honey. Old World craft with real local soul.

All In

This isn't a side gig, it's the thing I think about all day. Every mead gets my full attention and then some.
